Earlier this month I attended a mixology class at Bourbon & Branch and learned to make a few new cocktails perfect for entertaining. My favorite, by far, was the cucumber gimlet.
A cucumber gimlet is a spin on the classic cocktail, but with a wonderful layer of complexity. The edelflower liquor and orange bitters add flowery and zesty notes to the fresh lime and cucumber. I recreated the drink at home with slight variations.
Makes 1 drink
- 1 1/2 oz. gin – I used St. George
- 1 oz. St. Germaine Elderflower Liqueur
- 3/4 oz. fresh lime juice
- 1 generous dash orange bitters – I used Free Brothers
- 3 cucumber slices, plus more for garnish
Add gin, elderflower liquor, lime juice, bitters, and cucumber to a cocktail shaker. Using a muddler or wooden spoon, crush the cucumber into the mixture. Add ice and shake vigorously. Double strain into chilled cocktail glasses garnished with cucumber slices.
Another fun modification is to top off the glass with a splash of prosseco for some extra sparkle. Do you have any interesting twists on classic cocktails?
