For New Years Eve (how was that three weeks ago already!?!) Eric and I took a last minute road trip down to Carmel to escape the bubble of city life and start the year off with an adventure. Here are a couple photos from our time down there– it was SO lovely, and I can’t wait to go back when it gets warmer to enjoy the beach more!
As we were driving down, I found out that Eric had never been to Carmel before, so I made us pull off the highway and take the scenic route: also known as the 17-mile-Drive. If you have never been to the Monterey area before I highly recommend making a detour to drive along this road– the beaches are absolutely stunning (even when cloudy), there are great places to stop for picnics and photos, and it is dotted with the most incredible homes along the drive. Also if you spend enough time looking, you might even see a whale blowing along the horizon like we did!
We got really lucky finding a hotel vacancy the DAY before New Years at Tradewinds, a charmingly zen bed and breakfast with the coziest little fireplace in our room. From there it was a short 5 minute walk over to Ocean Avenue, where we spent the day ducking into shops, people watching, and making our way down to the beach at sunset– which was of course Eric’s favorite part. We had a late New Years Eve celebratory dinner at Christopher’s on Lincoln, and the next morning woke up early to walk down to the beach with our coffees in hand, ready to greet the new year. It was the perfect kickoff to 2014, and has me excited to plan some more road trips in the coming months… maybe Big Sur or Yosemite next? I’d love to hear your suggestions!
